Callmaster, delivering quality in telecommunications since 1979

Callmaster Voice over IP Package (VoIP)

Using the latest protocols and software available, Callmaster have designed a telephone network that can be operated through an existing or dedicated data network.

There are a number of ways of using our service but in each case the principle is the same.

Any telephone or fax device can be logged into our telephony server from any broadband or leased line data connection at any office in the UK or even the rest of the world. Calls can then be made in exactly the same way as normal, with no apparent difference in the quality. The critical difference between this and a conventional telephone call is that because it has been placed via our telephony server over the internet, there is no line rental .

There are a number of other advantages:

  • Voicemail (accessed via the phone or sent as an email)
  • Free “On Net” calls to other IP Telephony users
  • Virtual Call conferencing – just set up a room and invite people to join you
  • Call divert (allowing calls to reach you if you are out of the office)
  • Call transfer to other users on the same network
  • Busy status indication for all users on the network.

Our state of the art hardware is located in highly secure servers that are monitored and maintained 24 hours a day, at our telephony data centre in the Docklands in London . This is the main focal point for both the voice and data infrastructure in the UK , and thus an ideal location for us to ensure quality and keep prices down.

So how does a small to medium sized business take advantage of this?

Standalone VoIP Lines

For the small home office user this service can operate instead of a traditional telephone system with several telephones each with their own number all able to make receive, transfer and divert calls, and use voicemail. This service can be compared to BT's featureline service, but of course at a fraction of the cost. The device you use to access this service could be simply an application running on a PC (softphone), a simple telephone connected into a special LAN adaptor, or telephone that is designed to be connected to an ethernet port (hardphone) or even a Wi-Fi enabled PDA that you can carry around with you as though it were a cordless phone. These devices can be of any type as long as they support the SIP protocol

Callmaster VoIP Lines connected to existing system

In many cases companies with a considerable investment in their existing telephone system will be keen to preserve all of the features that it offers. In this case we can connect our Voice over IP lines to your existing system so that calls can be routed, according to specific rules, either via the Voice over IP lines or via the conventional lines. Apart from the cost savings in line rental this has particular advantages for creating a network of destinations that can be called free of charge creating a voice over IP network that can encompass home workers, other offices, customers or suppliers. Also because we can control the caller ID these calls appear to come from the existing company number.

Local Hardware or Software based IP PBX

For larger offices it is important to have the localised control and versatility that an on-site system can provide. This is all possible and even enhanced by deploying a service that integrates with our external VoIP lines. This can be done either using a traditional PBX that supports VoIP lines or a dedicated telephony server from Callmaster.

There is some comfort in having your telephone traffic routed through a device with a major manufacturer's name on it; from a user perspective everything is familiar and easy to operate. As a major supplier and maintainer of the PBXs produced by the big electronics manufacturers we at Callmaster understand this more than most. Fortunately there is great innovation going on in the PBX market and all of the systems that we currently sell and support have the capability to connect to our VoIP lines.

The alternative is to install a dedicated telephony server onto your local area network which is permanently logged into our telephony data centre for external calls, both inbound and outbound. It can also perform all of the functions of a traditional telephone system such as administering all of the internal traffic. Once again these devices can be of any type as long as they support the SIP protocol (i.e Hardphone, Softphone, LAN adaptor etc).

Whatever solution you adopt, unless you will be operating the system on uncontended leased lines we recommend that you keep some lines connected to the traditional telephone exchange (all within the scope of Callmaster). These can be connected either via trunk line card installed onto the telephony server, or they can be connected directly into the IP PBX.
